UNDERSTANDING MY ROLE
Understanding My Role
As we have already established here before, I'll be working as the Director, Scriptwriter, Editor, and Production Designer.
As a Director, my responsibilities include reading and editing scripts, directing film crews and actors and overseeing the production of the final film. I will be ensuring that all the individuals and set match the creative vision that I have for the final product.
As a Scriptwriter, I have the responsibility of preparing the script in such a way that enables the viewers to feel the story, I will be developing story concepts so that they can be translated into a visual form, as a story, for production. All of this will be done alongside having deep research into the subject matter and the target audience.
As an Editor, my prime responsibility would be to assemble the raw footage into the final cut of the film. Most of my work would be done post-production. Some might call the edit of a film as the final rewrite of the story. I'll have a heavy responsibility upon my shoulders. I'll be choosing what stays, and choosing what goes. The motto is 'act micro, but think macro. Every edit affects the whole project.'
As a Production Designer, I'll have deep control over the artistic elements of the movie. I'll be identifying style for sets, location, graphics, props, lighting, camera angles and costumes. Basically, the scenery of the movie is to be defined by the set producer.
I think my roles are clearly understood. There's one thing to remember, as the great Uncle Ben said, before his death "With great power comes great responsibility". I'm completely aware that having several important roles result in having more stricter responsibility and self-control. And I also know that I'll be working overtime to fill in the shoes of several roles, and I'm willing to do so, happily. See you all in the next lesson. Cheers!
